BFoodSc&Nutr, BEd, MDiet, MBA
Sarah Hunter is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) in Melbourne and a professional member of Dietitians Australia, Nutrition Australia and an Associate Member of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association. Her special interests include nutritional management of diabetes, heart, kidney and digestive health.
Sarah established Melbourne Dietetics Clinic to provide clear practical dietary advice
to patients living with these complex and often interrelated health conditions.
Sarah lives with her husband and children in Melbourne and is lucky enough to have her extended family close by. Sarah combines personal family experience in managing the challenges associated with diabetes, heart conditions and gastrointestinal conditions, with her clinical experience at Austin Health, Northern Health, and Diabetes Victoria to provide comprehensive dietetic care.
Diabetes, heart & kidney conditions or digestive issues can be difficult to cope with at times, and Sarah’s lived experiences mean she understands many of the challenges first hand. We all have different living circumstances and Sarah’s empathetic approach considers your current lifestyle, what is important to you, your support network, and your key health concerns.
Sarah translates scientific evidence into realistic and practical lifestyle and dietary strategies to best support your health. Sarah prides herself on equipping patients with confidence in managing their condition, and reducing their risk of further health complications.
With a special interest in the nutritional management of diabetes, Sarah assists patients who are concerned about developing diabetes, have been recently diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, or have been living with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes for a while. She also supports mothers-to-be diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. From small dietary modifications to comprehensive analysis of medication regimens and dietary patterns, patients can be assured of tailored dietetic care.
Heart health (cardiovascular health) is another key focus of Sarah’s practice as a dietitian in Melbourne. Sarah helps patients minimise the risk of disease progression, heart attack or stroke. Strong evidence suggests dietary interventions can improve blood pressure, triglyceride levels and cholesterol levels, all well known risk factors for heart disease. Sarah provides patients with realistic lifestyle and dietary changes to optimise their health.
Sarah’s other key interest is digestive health (gastrointestinal health or gut health). With increased awareness in the community, many long-suffering patients now seek dietary treatment for IBS and other gastrointestinal conditions. Evidence based guidance allows Sarah to bring about significant improvement in common bowel issues such as bloating, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea.
Sarah has completed the Monash University Low FODMAP Diet for IBS training course and if necessary, guides patients through this program so as to minimise dietary restrictions long term. By identifying individual stressors and food triggers, symptom relief and improved quality of life become achievable long term health outcomes.
Sarah consults privately in one-on-one appointments and works closely with medical practitioners to ensure complementary patient care. Click here to book now
